Back in the U.S.A.! We crossed through the border in Sarnia on the Canadian side right where the St Clair River empties into Lake Huron. In long ago days when I was a sales rep for a Canadian educational book publisher, my territory spanned all of Ontario, and the picturesque town of Sarnia was always at the end of the line. Today I get to cross the line. We’re in Michigan, heading to the Detroit suburb of Farmington Hills to visit fellow Van fans Liz and Steve Wood for a couple of days. The remainder of our week in the province of Quebec begins with a whirlwind 24-hour visit to the provincial capital. Arriving midafternoon, we checked in at the residences of Laval University, with its affordable lodging and a place to park the car. Catching a bus heading into downtown, we debarked at the entrance to rue St Jean, gateway to the section of the old city that sits high on the hill. Continue reading

The second leg of our road trip begins. We made our getaway from New Hampshire on Sunday, July 1 – Canada Day – and most appropriately, Canada is our destination. Shooting up through Maine on I-95, we cross the border into New Brunswick at Woodstock and make our way along the Trans Canada Highway to the little town of Harvey, south of Fredericton.
